Top Perks Employees Want Include Expanded Healthcare & Wellness Benefits

Written by Hint Health News | November 10, 2022

According to a survey of 2,000 full-time U.S. employees conducted by Remote, a hiring platform, six out of the top ten perks people want from their employers are related to healthcare coverage and wellness. Other important perks listed include overtime pay, flexible working hours and a company sponsored retirement plan or pension. Employees and prospective employees want to feel valued by the companies they work for or choose to work for and with the competition for top talent being what it is, companies must listen and deliver.

Healthcare coverage and delivery are overwhelmingly a deciding factor when it comes to retaining employees and attracting the best talent. In fact, this is the main reason why employers offer this benefit. A research study conducted by Zippia found that 66% of employers offer health insurance “to hire and retain the best workers,” 43% do so out of “moral responsibility,” and 27% do so to “encourage productivity.”

Besides health insurance and healthcare cost reimbursements, employees are also looking for wellness support via paid self care days or time off specifically for mental health. There is an opportunity for employers to become major supporters in the health of their employees by going beyond traditional health insurance plans and providing access to better care.

The traditional fee-for-service healthcare system constrains the time providers have with patients and often deters patients from seeking preventative care in the first place. The majority of insured employees (83%) have a general annual deductible for single coverage that must be met before the plan pays for most services. Direct primary care (DPC) eliminates the need for meeting annual deductibles because the services provided by DPC clinics are covered in a monthly membership, which has a median cost of $80 per member per month that the employer sponsor can choose to cover in its entirety or partially.

With DPC, patients have better access to care with the ability to contact clinicians after hours and do virtual visits. The framework of the DPC model enables a stronger doctor-patient relationship with longer visits resulting in improved health outcomes. DPC clinicians are also more likely to have a holistic approach in care delivery and have the time to do so with smaller patient panels and less administrative tasks.

DPC is new territory for most employers and benefit advisors, which is why we launched Hint Connect, our curated DPC network to make it easy for employers to incorporate DPC into their benefits package. Direct primary care is truly a win-win for employers and their staff enabling a more engaged, healthier and happier workforce while also reducing overall healthcare spend. Don't miss out on an opportunity to be more competitive and stand out with a fortified benefits package in 2023 that includes direct primary care. Learn more about DPC for employers here.
